Recently we were asked if we were
“super people.” We definitely fill each day to the fullest. Here
is what our Monday typically looks like.
Monday is a work day. Meaning not a
full harvest day (Tuesday/Friday), delivery day (Friday) or farmer's
market day (Tuesday/Saturday). Mondays are farm projects and errands.
Kathleen has the day off and our Monday volunteer, Lisa, works the
morning 8-12 shift in exchange for a big ole' bag of veggies.
This is what we did this Monday.
Coffee and local eggs for breakfast. In
the morning, Morgan opened the farm (greenhouses, watering and
morning microgreen duties), wheelhoed part of the annual field, dug
up the rest of the California Early garlic, more watering and he did
the microgreen and lettuce harvest for Tuesday's farmer's market. I
weeded and watered flowers around property, took all the recycling
and trash to the dump, did the banking, grocery and supply shopping
for the week and gave two new volunteers a farm tour.
We take long lunches in the middle of
the day to avoid the heat. Morgan wrote the weekly ESA delivery &
restaurant emails and I cleaned the house and did laundry. In the
afternoon, Morgan washed & dried the lettuce harvest, sorted
garlic to hang/sell/for seed, planted some potted flowers, staked
field tomatoes, more watering, more wheelhoeing in the annual field,
closed the farm, fixed a window in the cabin and made us dinner. I
weeded around the guest house, cleaned and bleached five cabinets
that will be sanded and painted tomorrow for our kitchen remodel,
picked up and shoveled a ton (literally) of gravel on a zeroscaping
flower bed project and I picked raspberries, blueberries and
mulberries for dessert.
It's 10:15pm and we're watching a movie
on Netflix and I wrote this blog and edited all the pictures from
this week. Tomorrow is a harvest day in the morning and Kathleen's
turn to do the West Asheville Market in the afternoon. Morgan and I
will stay on the farm and do projects for the remainder of the day.
Eat. Farm. Eat. Farm. Eat. Sleep.
Love life. Repeat.
